New to IT @ EKU?

Here are the top 10 things to remember*:
  • Claim your E-key so you can register for classes, use your email, login to Blackboard, use the libraries online resouces, etc!
  • Change your default E-key password immediately! Do not use personal information for passwords. Using such information as birth dates, names, etc. can make you an easy target for hackers. Be sure your password contains at least eight characters including numbers. Also, don't write you passwords down, change all passwords every 3-4 months, and don't use the same password for all accounts.
  • Legitimate companies/organizations (including EKU) don't ask for your personal information or financial information (e.g., passwords, bank account/credit card information, etc.) via email. Also, never trust unsolicited contacts from an email, a link, or over the telephone.
  • EKU Student MyMail Account at mymail.eku.edu for email anytime, anywhere. This account is now free for life and includes a 25GB SkyDrive and free use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)!
  • Be secure at EKU! Check out smartcomputing.eku.edu for guidelines on keeping your computer and yourself secure in cyberspace and on campus.
  • Don't forget these electronics when you come to school! Keep them safe while you're here too.
  • Don't download copyrighted materials (e.g., music, movies, tv shows, software, games, etc.).
  • How to connect to ResNet's Ethernet. NOTE: DO NOT PURCHASE AN ANTIVIRUS PROGRAM. EKU gives & requires every student connecting to the campus network to use the version of Symantec Endpoint Protection that we provide free.
  • How to connect to campus wireless If you live in the residence halls, you'll connect to the wireless using Cisco NAC Agent but first you need to connect to your Ethernet connection in your room. Also, this network is intended as a convenience network, not a replacement for our wired Ethernet in your room. If you are handling academic work on the network, it is highly recommended that you use the wired network instead of the wireless network. Wireless connections, like any radio signals, are vulnerable to interference from certain obstacles: 2.4 GHz wireless phones, microwaves, building walls, etc.
  • ResNet is Eastern students' help desk for technology assistance. Visit us at support.resnet.eku.edu, send email to resnet@eku.edu or visit our office in room 230 of the Combs Classroom Building. It's our pleasure to assist you.
